Appalachian Mountain Moonshine:
Local Reactions to Prohibition Reform

Americans do not like government overreach, so when the 18th Amendment was used to reform the morality of the country by prohibiting the manufacture and sale of alcohol, Appalachian farmers reacted by producing and selling “moonshine”, using Henry Ford’s revolutionary automobiles to transport it. When the Volstead Act prohibited Americans from purchasing even beer or wine, Americans protested and resisted until the 21st Amendment was passed.
